When Following YOUR Dream Is Openly Criticized By Your Nearest And Dearest

Here is a topic I am sure that many might be able to relate to …

And it can take so MANY forms.

You have taken the plunge… you have chosen your path…and you have set out with confidence to become all that you can be, fully aware  that you do NOT know the first thing about what you are doing, but that you are determined to learn, to expand, to stretch to a point where you feel proud and accomplished. Maybe it is a business venture, maybe it is traveling to an unknown destination, maybe it is a determination to finally shed those pounds that have been plaguing you and undermining your health and happiness for several years now, making you feel terrible about yourself each time you glance in the mirror.

So…. when those you love simply cannot support your fledgling attempts at pursuing your dreams, do you keep the peace and still the voice inside you that started out very faint but is now demanding that you pay attention, or do you shrink back so that others don't feel intimidated by your courage, your willingness to make yourself temporarily uncomfortable in your quest for what will make YOUR life feel meaningful to YOU? As the criticism arrives, can you remind yourself that it is so often motivated by another's fear, distrust or discomfort, often disguised as caring concern, and that you do not have to take this on if you don't choose to do so? It's difficult, I know, to walk that fine line and to hold on with both hands to your certainty. But remind yourself that to have gotten this far, you are STRONG. You are COURAGEOUS. And you are DETERMINED. Don't turn your back on those you love, but Find Your Tribe who will support you in your efforts to grow. This will only serve to nourish and strengthen you, and as you feel empowered, you may very well have a wonderfully empowering effect on those you love as well.

I am particularly moved by this quotation from Marianne Williamson, and I share it with you…

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

When will you give yourself permission to live the life that YOU choose?

I meant to comment on this weeks ago! Thank you, Holly, for shining a light on this topic. This is what stops so many women from achieving their goals – and that's so wrong on so many levels! I love the way you express yourself! Let's all shine!!
